It’s important to raise awareness about teen and young adult mental health. One of the best things you can do is TALK ABOUT IT.
Talking openly about stress, depression, bipolar disorder, anxiety, eating disorders, substance abuse and other mental health issues can reduce stigma, educate others, and encourage someone to get help.

QUICK FACTS:
- Suicide is the third-leading cause of death in teens ages 10 to 19.
- Suicide is the second-leading cause of death in college-age youth.
- In the Dallas Metroplex, we lose a young person between the ages of 15 and 24 to suicide at the rate of one every four days.
- An estimated 90% of teens and young adults who die by suicide had a treatable depressive or mental disorder that went back more than one year.
REMEMBER:
- Depression is a medical illness, and it is treatable.
- Any threat of suicide or admission of suicidal thoughts should be taken seriously.
- A crisis hotline is a great place to start when you need information or help. Call 1-800-273-TALK 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
- Talking about depression or suicidal thoughts encourages someone to share openly about his struggles and relieves some of the burden.
So TALK ABOUT IT.
Ask the Grant Halliburton Foundation to make a presentation to your school or community group. Contact us at 972.744.9798 or mail@GrantHalliburton.org.
