Meet Michael Kovac, Grant Halliburton Foundation’s donor relations intern for summer 2026!

Michael Kovac is currently a student at Duke University studying psychology. When he's not at work, Michael enjoys playing guitar, spending time with his family, exploring the outdoors, and cheering on Duke basketball. Believing that every challenge should be met with a positive mindset, he’s passionate about supporting Grant Halliburton Foundation's mission to expand access to mental health education and resources for children and teens.

Here are 10 things to know about Michael!

1. What was your first job? 

My first job was working as an assistant basketball coach for 5th graders.

2. What’s your guilty pleasure?

Van Leuwen Coffee Affogato Ice Cream.

3. What advice would you give to your teenage self?

No matter what comes your way, face it with a positive mindset.

4. What’s your favorite movie scene and why?

The scene in “The Dark Knight” when Joker is explaining his scars. It’s absolutely chilling and horrifying. The best example of how incredible Heath Ledger is in that movie.

5. What’s one thing people would be surprised to know about you?

I really enjoy Miles Davis’ music.

6. What is your favorite book and why?

My favorite book is “Frankenstein” because I love the way Mary Shelley describes nature so elegantly.

7. What do you enjoy doing when you’re not at work?

I love playing guitar, hanging out with my family, and rooting on Duke basketball.

8. What are the top three TV shows you’re watching right now?

“Breaking Bad,” “Modern Family,” and “The Office.”

9. Where’s your favorite travel destination and why?

Vail, Colorado because I love to ski in the winter and hike in the summer.

10. Why is Grant Halliburton Foundation’s mission important to you?

As someone who has experienced mental health challenges, I know how important it is to understand what resources are available and how to get help. Educating children and teens on mental health resources is so important, and I am blessed to be able to contribute to the Foundation’s mission this summer.
