The Corona Chronicles: Life at Home with Two Kids Under 5 | Part 3

Day 61

Today was a good day.

My husband let me sleep in a bit, and I snuck in a shower first thing. The kids put underwear on their heads, donned their finest Mardi Gras beads and butterfly wings, and attended a lavish party in my daughter’s room thrown by none other than Winnie the Pooh.

What was the secret sauce that made this day possible? Was it the morsels of broccoli my children ate three days ago? The lavender essential oil I diffused last night? The current moon phase?

We may never know. For now, I’ll enjoy using my “free” time to unload and reload the dishwasher and pick up toys strewn around the house.

I need more of these dancing-in-the-kitchen-while-I-cook-dinner kind of days. There are moments when everything feels normal and you revel in feeling lighter, only to be reminded of the reality we are facing right now, and your heart sinks again.

Quarantine resolution: string these lighter moments together and bob from one to the next. When things feel heavy, remember that you’ll bounce back up soon. Grab as much joy as you can right now, hold on to it, and share it with others. Wishing you many moments of joy in the midst of this pandemic.
